Pune Warriors' Michael Clarke walks back towards the pavilion as Kolkata Knight Riders' cricketers celebrate his dismissal during an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match in Kolkata
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Brilliant batting and disciplined bowling helped Kolkata Knight Riders beat Pune Warriors India by seven runs in the IPL clash at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
- Chasing 151, Pune Warriors managed to score 143, conceding a comfortable victory to host Kolkata Knight Riders at the fully packed stadium.
- After losing half the side for just 55 in eight overs, Pune completely looked out of the game before hard hitting by Angelo Mathews and a fighting show by skipper Sourav Ganguly raised some hope for the visitors.
- However, after Ganguly's dismissal in the 18 th over, Kolkata didn't allow Pune to move smoothly and restricted them seven short of the target.
- Marchant de Lange dismissed both openers Michael Clarke and Robin Uthappa to spoil Pune Warriors' start after Kolkata were restricted to 150/5 at Eden Gardens.
- Pacer Marchant de Lange bowled out Michael Clarke (1) and then got Uthappa (16) caught by L Shukla in covers to reduce Pune to 28/2.
- After brief lull, Pune lost Manish Pandey, Mithun Manhas and Steven Smith to give Pune control.
- Jacques Kallis removed Mithun Manhas (1) soon after Iqbal Abdulla dismissed Manish Pandey (17).
- After opting to bat, skipper Gautam Gambhir along with fellow opener Brendon McCullum gave hosts a flying start and took the score past 100 in just ten overs, keeping Pune warriors at bay.
- Gambhir slammed a swashbuckling half-ton and a shared 113-run stand with McCullum for the first wicket. He scored 36-ball-56, studded with two sixes and five boundaries before falling to spinner Murali Kartik.
- Gambhir's dismissal was followed by the wicket of McCullum (42) who failed to reach his half-ton and succumbed to Angelo Mathews at the score of 115.
- Pune tightened noose around Kolkata after McCullum's dismissal as the hosts were seen struggling to score runs in slog overs.
- After trapping McCullum leg before wickets, Mathews struck again soon to bowl out Jacques Kallis (1).
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar sent back Yusuf Pathan to give Kolkata fourth blow at the score of 134. After addition of seven runs on board, Kumar struck again to remove L Shukla.
- Kolkata added nine runs in the final over to set a challenging 151 for Pune.
- Kolkata captain Gautam Gambhir said, "Marchant de Lange has replaced Brett Lee in this game. McCullum is a quality player and it is a matter of time before he clicks."
- "To be honest, a bit of nerves, hopefully they will settle down over time. Would have batted first as well. Angelo Mathews is in for the Pune Warriors," said Pune captain Sourav Ganguly after losing the toss.
- Saturday's matinee show is not just about a game; it is not about Shah Rukh Khan, or his team either. It is all about the Prince of Kolkata's journey back to his roots as he takes centre-stage at the Eden Gardens.
