A British tourist was arrested and detained at a Spanish airport
after he arrived drunk and started giving away an estimated €52,000 to
passersby. The man is thought to have gained the money as an inheritance
and was carrying it in cash and traveller checks.
Worried passengers at the Son Sant Joan Airport alerted the police, as the man was scruffily dressed and looked like he hadn’t washed for days. Police determined that he did not realise he was giving away thousand of euros and took him into custody for a short time.
The 59 year old man was soon persuaded to put his money away and board his return flight.
